For cross-country skier Dave van de Louw, alpine skier Enikö Smulders, short track speed skater Yara van Drunen Littel, and snowboarder Luke Ruijter, the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025 in Turin mark a highlight in their lives.
Thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities from over a hundred countries will compete in eight different sports. Dave, Enikö, Yara, and Luke are four of the twenty Dutch athletes who have qualified.
The Special Olympics World Games are the Olympic Games for athletes with intellectual disabilities. There is a summer and a winter edition, both held every four years.
