Greater Mind, Greater Beast
Greater Mind, Greater Beast is a documentary about Dick Matena: a beautiful personal portrait of this remarkable comics artist, who began his career at the Toonder Studios, where he took the Panda series under his wing.
He went on to success at Pep with series including De Argonautjes. Matena ran into trouble when he began making more personal work, such as the book De Prediker. In recent years he became best known for his comics adaptations of De Avonden (Gerard Reve) and Kort Amerikaans (Jan Wolkers).
Alongside interviews with Dick himself, the documentary contains unique interviews with Jan Wolkers, Marten Toonder and Lou Hartog van Banda, among others. To date only 50% of the film is finished.
