Girls of the Keileweg

Meiden van de Keileweg (2001) is a nine-part documentary series about street sex workers on the Keileweg in Rotterdam, an industrial area near the bank of the Maas where the city’s tolerance zone was located. The zone — nicknamed ‘Keetje Tippel’ — was created specifically for sex workers with addictions. Here, under the eye of the police, social services and the drug dealers, they could inject, snort, smoke and have joyless sex. The success of the first six episodes led to three further episodes of 45 minutes each.
