The Fifth Bride

Filmmaker Rogier Timmermans sets out to find the real reason his aunt Petra disappeared from his life.
He tracks her down at the home of artist Anton Heyboer, who lives as a recluse together with four other women. Petra turns out to have a very particular relationship with the artist, who does not take easily to being filmed.
Digging into the family past meets resistance. Even so, the discovery of old footage and his aunt’s diary films leads to a striking revelation.
The film came second at IDFA and was a co-production with VPRO.
