Children of the Webcam
Children of the Webcam (2016) is a powerful and disturbing film about the fast-growing phenomenon of the sexual abuse of children over webcam. Filmmaker Jacco Groen follows journalist Peter Dupont’s difficult search; both are driven by the wish to protect vulnerable victims. In the course of the film the makers go from investigative journalists to undercover paedophiles infiltrating a webcam network. In the end they even assist the police in a major raid on a child cybersex stronghold in the Philippines.
At any given moment there are more than 50,000 sexual predators online. With no system in place, it is becoming ever harder for law enforcement to deal with them: this kind of cybercrime is almost impossible to trace and to prove.
